Welcome to the Department of Physics, University of Kashmir, Srinagar, India. Ours is a medium
sized department with 12 faculty members who come from a variety of academic and research
Our faculty are actively engaged in research across the full spectrum of the discipline, from
the tiniest to the largest scales, from individual fundamental particles to the remarkable collective
properties that emerge in ensembles, and from the coldest temperatures in the universe to conditions
rivalling those of the Big Bang. Faculty members collaborate with researchers at the pioneering
institutes of the country like Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai, Inter-
University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune, Saha Institute of Nuclear
Physics (SINP), Kolkata, Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre (VECC), Kolkata, Inter-University
Accelerator Centre (IUAC), New Delhi and many more. In addition the faculty members work in
collaboration with many IITs and Universities across the country. We have many international
collaborations also which include CERN, Geneva, FAIR at Darmstadt, Germany and ORNL USA
The Department strives to maintain an enjoyable and highly collaborative environment for
research and education and to help researchers and students reach their best potential. We continue
to expand and update our curriculum to include topics of current interest.
Our students have found employment in the state of Jammu and Kashmir as well as in many
